UNDERFLOOR DRAFT PROOFING

KEEPING COLD AIR
OUT OF YOUR HOME

We provide underfloor draft proofing solutions that prevent cold air from your underfloor entering your home, making it healthier and more energy efficient.

Up to 25% of heat loss occurs due to drafts throughout your home through windows, doors and floors. A draft coming through your floorboards in particular has the added impact of reducing or nullifying the effectiveness of your underfloor insulation which is responsible for roughly 15% of heat retention.

WHY DRAFT PROOF YOUR UNDERFLOOR?

If you have tongue and groove floor boards, baseboards with large gaps allowing easy air flow into your underfloor and exposed floorboards inside your home, you would most certainly benefit from a draft proofing solution.

Underfloor draft proofing is a solution to prevent cold air being forced up through tongue and groove floor boards by installing building wrap to the underside of your floor joists. This creates a wind barrier blocking air movement from your underfloor to your home making your insulation more effective and your heating more efficient. This also adds a wind wash barrier to your underfloor insulation making it far more effective all year round.

UNDERFLOOR DRAFT PROOFING PROCESS

Remediate existing insulation - Prior to starting the draft proofing, we check the underfloor insulation to ensure there are no gaps and that it is up to standard.

Roll out and secure - The building wrap is rolled out between bearers and stapled to the underside of the joists and sides of the bearers.

Seal - Where the building wrap has been cut to allow for protrusions such as plumbing and wires, sill tape is used to secure and seal it back up.

Strapping - Once the wrap is in place, stud strapping is stapled down the length of the underfloor to help ensure that it stays in place even in high winds.
