GROUND MOISTURE BARRIER
KEEPING HOMES
DRY ALL YEAR ROUND
A ground moisture barrier is a simple but powerful way to improve living conditions in New Zealand homes. Many Kiwi houses sit above damp ground, and without a barrier, moisture can rise into the subfloor and living areas.
WHY INSTALL A GROUND MOISTURE BARRIER?
Moisture from the ground can rise into your home causing problems like dampness, mould and timber decay. It can also lead to higher humidity levels in the home which is harder to heat.
A ground moisture barrier is a durable polythene plastic membrane that is laid on the soil beneath your floor, creating a protective layer that blocks rising moisture and helps maintain a dry, comfortable living environment.

GROUND MOISTURE BARRIER
PROCESS
Ground preparation - We clear the ground of any rubbish and old construction materials left behind. (Large amounts of stored items should be removed by the owner)

Roll out - The polythene sheet is rolled out between the bearers, unfolded and cut across the piles while ensuring it runs up exterior walls.
Secure and tape - Ground staples are placed along perimeter edges and joins. PVC jointing tape is then wrapped around each pile to further secure the polythene in place. Tape is also used along joins that do not overlap to ensure maximum efficiency.
